In-house designed equipment

  • RFID chip reader
    • Enables select manikins and task trainers to have pre-programmed ultrasound features that can be configured to case presentation.
    • With advanced noticed, can program RFID chips for unique functions such as audio files of unique heart sounds, visual files of neuro or wound findings, or gifs of patient presentations.
  • Wound beds
    • Modifiable wound beds made from silicone with varying depths, tunnelling, lacerations, purulence, necrosis, burns, etc. Can be integrated on the manikin or stand independently as a wound care task trainer.
  • Nasal packing task trainer
    • Practice nasal packing and open up the task trainer to visualize whether the task was completed correctly. Includes turbinates and mouth/throat reference points.
  • Urinary catheter trainers
    • Female and male foley insertion trainers that have urine feedback after successful insertion.
  • Amputed arm
    • Practice tourniquet application and wound application considerations for a severed arm. Include eviscerated skin; fat and muscle layer, and bone. Can be hooked up to blood pump to demonstrate arterial bleed. Can be connected to high fidelity adult manikin to be integrated into case.
  • Pressure generation device for pressure monitoring task trainer
    • Hook up the task trainer to a Phillips monitor or any pressure monitor device and mimic waveforms that show normal and abnormal results. Currently configured to support findings for ICP waveforms and arterial line waveforms.
  • Lateral canthotomy task trainer
    • Practice the critical steps to lateral canthotomy landmarking and incisions. Eye component is easily replaceable for multiple attempts to enable deliberate practice.
  • Call bell system
    • Remote-controlled call bell system that learners can push to indicate either a non-urgent or urgent/Code Blue need for help. Will sound and flash in any room placed.
  • Drain clamp device
    • Bluetooth controlled device that allows any manikin to be configured to allow learners to practice realistic blood draws from any line.
  • EtCO2 Capnography sensor
    • Remote-enabled EtCO2 capnography sensor that simulates 3 levels of EtCO2 levels via colour-codes to signal learners to present EtCO2 levels.
  • Glucometer
    • Programmable simulated glucometer that can have a test strip inserted that will then read a pre-programmed glucose level.

Consumable equipment (single and multiple use)

  • The HSN Simulation Lab houses a variety of single-use and multi-use healthcare equipment and kits relevant to the performance of the skills performed with current programs. Cost recovery for this equipment is expected of external users. For more details on cost associated with consumable equipment, please reference our Fee Schedule present in our Guidelines tab.
